Ticket ownership transfer

Ticket ownership transfer

Are you working in a market where customers are allowed to freely resell their tickets through non-official secondary marketplaces?

To support this resale model, event organizers need to provide a way to transfer ticket ownership to the new buyer - allowing them to resell the ticket again if needed.

Until now, in S360, refunds were always issued to the main contact, regardless of who actually owned or resold the ticket (typically the cultural contact). This created confusion when the resale proceeds didn’t go to the person who had the right to resell. With this improvement, the refund will now go directly to the ticket owner - the person with the resale rights - ensuring clarity and fairness in the resale process.

Solution

We are introducing a configuration of the default owner at the organization level. The option allows organizations to configure whether ownership should be transferred systematically to the cultural contact or whether it should remain with the buyer. A third option allows to have the ownership remain with the buyer by default but allows the owner to transfer the ownership to someone else.

This third option fulfills the requirement of certain markets, where organizers must provide a way to transfer ticket ownership if a ticket has been resold through a third-party platform for example. From the ticket shop, the current ticket owner will now see a new option to transfer ownership for tickets available for resale.

Getting Started

Back-end Configuration

In the characteristics screen of the organization, a new “Ticket owner” parameter allows to switch between the 3 options:

  • Cultural contact (default): the cultural contact linked to the ticket can post for resale and will receive the refunded money. In the set-up, the owner is always the cultural contact.

  • Buyer contact: the buyer contact can post for resale (provided he/she is also the cultural contact) and will receive the refunded money. Note th

  • Transferable: By default the buyer contact is the owner but he/she has the option to transfer the ownership from the ticketshop (see below).

To activate the transfer of ownership in the ticketshop, a new point of sales parameter has been added.

To initiate the transfer, the sender must enter the recipient's email address. The recipient will receive an email notification and, upon logging into the portal, will be able to accept or decline the transfer.

  • If accepted, the ticket will be assigned to the recipient.

  • If declined, the ticket will stay with the current owner.

In case of mistakes - such as an incorrect email - the sender can cancel the transfer at any time before it is accepted.

This transfer of ownership process currently only applies to tickets linked to a blockchain shipment mode.

By default, ownership of a ticket remains with the main contact unless changed through this process.
